Dan Garrett Family
Some years back, with the guidance of Northbay Family Homes, I was able to purchase a condominium at Hamilton. In the intervening years I’ve married, and my wife and I have a year-old son. Ronan can walk now, and it’s exciting but scary, too, because now he can get away from us! We needed a larger home. So when I heard about the affordable homes being built at Virginia Grove by HartMarin, I again turned to Northbay Family Homes.
NFH contacted the North Marin Water District where I’m a foreman, in charge of valves and hydrant maintenance. The water district already has a program in place to help its employees to purchase homes. By providing “silent second” mortgages, employers make it possible for employees to have a much better chance of qualifying to buy a Marin County home. These funds do not have to be repaid until the home is sold, or the employee leaves the water district, or until 15 years have passed – whichever comes first.
Working with Northbay Family Homes has been an extremely positive experience. They help a lot with the stress of the home-buying experience. They know every step along the way. Laura Levine has been my contact at NFH, but everyone there seems great.
Now Melina and I own our own single-family home in Novato. We closed escrow and received the keys to our brand-new 3-bedroom, 2-bath home at the end of November, 2008.
I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to be part of a small neighborhood. I love being local to my work. I feel like a true member of my community, and it’s all thanks to Northbay Family Homes.
By the way – the condominium I bought goes back into NFH’s pool of affordable homes in Novato, so it can be sold to a workforce person like me.
Now, I'm the Happiest of Homeowners!
